Miami Heat History

Founded in 1988 as an expansion franchise, the Miami HEAT has since become one of the NBA’s premier organizations, laying claim to 15 Southeast Division titles, 6 Eastern Conference titles, and 3 league Championships. After hiring renowned NBA coach Pat Riley in 1995, the team won its first Championship in 2006, then captured back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, led by current and future Hall of Famers Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal, Alonzo Mourning, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Ray Allen. In the summer of 2019, much of the team’s current core began to take shape, as the HEAT drafted guard Tyler Herro, then acquired All-Star guard Jimmy Butler to round out a roster that already featured promising big, Bam Adebayo. Today, the Miami HEAT–regarded as a pillar in both basketball and business–stands as one of the most respected franchises not just in the NBA, but in all of sports.
